Practical in the operating environment
Resources that hold up in a cab, a depot, a control room or a worksite, not only in a training room.
ONRSR is refreshing its Rail Resource Management resources to help make non-technical skills practical, credible and easier to apply across the rail industry.
This page will be updated as the refresh progresses. Content marked in square brackets is awaiting approved detail.
Rail Resource Management, or RRM, focuses on the non-technical skills that support safe, effective work. This can include communication, situational awareness, decision-making, teamwork and managing workload.
Passing on what matters, clearly and in time, across roles and locations.
Noticing what is changing around you and staying ahead of the task.
Weighing the options available and acting with sound reasoning under pressure.
Working as one crew, including speaking up and backing each other up.
Prioritising, pacing and asking for support before demand builds up.
This work will update the content, design and delivery system for ONRSR's existing RRM training package kit. Three principles guide the intended direction.
Resources that hold up in a cab, a depot, a control room or a worksite, not only in a training room.
Grounded in how rail work is actually done, in language and scenarios that rail people recognise.
Usable by large operators and small teams alike, and adaptable to different roles, networks and delivery settings.
Follow the decisions, activity and next steps shaping the refresh.
At our kick-off meeting, ONRSR and Opposite aligned on a shared direction: practical, credible and scalable resources that people can access, understand and apply in real rail operating contexts.
Discovery will now focus on priority audiences, existing materials and gaps, how people should access and use the resources, and what will support adoption across the industry. The team also agreed to monthly check-ins, clear decision records and early industry involvement as the work develops.
